TLR Gives Back Foundation

TLR Gives Back Foundation is a 501c3 Not-Profit (in progress) was started back in 2011 with a mission to help the low income students in our community advance and further their education no matter what they wanted to study. Basically no real direction, however we knew we wanted to Give Back into our community one way or the other.

With the passing of my grandmother Mrs Cleora Thomas Harris in 2013, whom suffered from both dementia and alzheimer, my mission has been to help raise awareness on how music is related to both Alzheimer ‘s and dementia diseases. Thinking back on how music help ease both tension and relaxed her when she was placed in uncomfortable situations. To that end, my love for her and music, my goal is to help keep music alive in our schools to help further educate student in music.

Mission and goal is to help keep music alive in our schools and hearts.

Music has power – especially for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.  It can spark compelling outcomes even in the very late stages of the disease. When used appropriately, music can shift mood, manage stress-induced agitation, stimulate positive interactions, facilitate cognitive function, and coordinate motor movements.

Did you know that the average cost for a comprehensive K-12 music education program is only about $187 per student? If it’s so cost-effective, why are the music programs the first to be cut when funds are low? A study, funded by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), shows that it’s fairly economical to keep music in schools as long as the funding is balanced.

We support our foundation and its mission, by hosting fundraisers throughout the year and through donations from community businesses and residents via product/clothing/monetary.

For the past few years, TLR Gives Back Foundation have hosted Annual Back to School Fundraisers "Fashion Shows" then donated a portion of the proceeds and boxes of school supplies to "The Peoples Resource Center" in Wheaton.

Since then, we’ve decided to do something a little different. We decided to have a "$20.00 BLUE BAG Fundraiser" with all the clothing donations throughout the year then donate the profits to the winning schools music department.

How did it work? For every bag purchased, shoppers would simply drop their favorite school's name in the bucket. At the end of the day, we tally up the names and announced the winning school. All DuPage County School's Music Department was eligible to win. Grades K - College.

2017 Fashion and Music has collided.

TLR Gives Back Foundation has decided to host a series of sidewalk sales throughout the year of all the items that have been donated. 100% of all profits will be donated in the following manner: misc items and $10.00 bag purchases go towards scholarships and $20 bag purchase go towards schools music departments.
